How to get Indian citizenship?
There are many rules for getting Indian citizenship. For example, if an Indian girl or boy marries a foreign boy or girl, then that foreign girl or boy can apply to get citizenship in India. Apart from this, if a foreigner has been living in India for 11 to 15 years, then he can apply for Indian citizenship. But the thing to keep in mind is that the person’s entry into India should not be illegal. Apart from this, a child born in India gets Indian citizenship.
Citizenship of India is obtained according to some other rules also. For example, if a person ordinarily resides in India for 7 years, he can apply for citizenship. At the same time, if a person has good character and has adequate knowledge of the languages mentioned in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, then he can also apply for citizenship. In simple language, according to the rules of Indian citizenship, any person can apply.
CAA
According to the Citizenship Amendment Act implemented by the Government of India, only the minorities of three Muslim countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan will be given Indian citizenship. However, this citizenship will be available only to those people who have come to India till 31 December 2014. According to the rules of CAA, it includes 6 non-Muslim communities which include Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Jain, Buddhist and Parsi.
